Grandma's Marathon 2018

If you are from Minnesota, you know about Grandma's Marathon. It is iconic -- both for the race and for the party that happens afterward. It has been on my radar since I ran my first marathon in 2015 but because of timing, it never worked out.

I'll be honest, it is a major commitment and not just because of the running. You have to be in town Friday night -- there is no packet pick-up on race day and the start time makes it nearly impossible to drive in Saturday morning. My only other marathon experiences were at the Twin Cities Marathon where I woke up at a comfortable time and got dropped off blocks from the start line in downtown Minneapolis. So this was a new experience for me.

Jean's Summer Salad

My best friend Julie gave me this recipe after her mom Jean made it over the Fourth of July. Hence, why it is called Jean's Summer Salad. Easy recipe naming strategy moving forward. 

I tweaked Jean's version a little bit -- swapped out celery for cucumbers and toasted the slivered almonds. Nothing drastic because Jean's recipe looked amazing. And Julie raved about how delicious it was for being so simple.

Sloppy Joes

For some reason, I always equate Sloppy Joes with cafeteria food. And not in a bad way. More of a we-ate-them-in-school kinda way. And of course I think of Adam Sandler. And now you are thinking of Adam Sandler and you’re singing the song and I would like to apologize in advance for it being stuck in your head all day.

Maybe we should start over?
