Cabin season is quickly approaching!

I’m out of shape. No, really. Winter has kicked my butt and since it isn’t quite warm enough to start running outside on a daily basis, I am starting a new challenge — indoors — to get myself ready for swimsuit weather.

30 Days of Yoga.

Yes, I am going to do 30 yoga classes in 30 days. And because I have commitment issues (who doesn’t?), I’m using my blog and social media to keep me on track. So thank you in advance.

Here goes nothing.

Day 1 – Monday, March 11 (7:15pm)

• First class: Introduction to Yoga at Life Time Fitness – St. Louis Park (Instructor: Jennifer L.)

Jennifer has always been one of my favorite instructors at LTF, it has just been a LONG time since I have been to one of her classes. It was a butt-kicking — in the best way! — but it was all worth it as I was in Savasana at the end of the class. I actually almost dozed off. Whoops.

One down. Boom. Namaste!

Day 2 – Tuesday, March 12 (12:00pm)

• Second class: Yoga Sculpt at Life Time Fitness – St. Louis Park (Instructor: Katie H.)

The class was described as a ‘yoga class with hand weights and added strength challenges performed in a warm room’; there was no description telling me how hard it was going to be! Honestly, one of the most intense classes I have ever taken at LTF. We used weights while transitioning through Reverse Warrior, Warrior 2 and Chair Pose and by the end of the class, I was very sweaty and very tired.

My legs hurt, my abs hurt and I have a hard time sitting down. 28 more to go!

Day 3 – Wednesday, March 13 (7:15pm)

• Third class

I’m trying to be nice so I’m not going to include the name of the class, where I took it or the instructor’s name because it was the worst yoga class I have ever taken. If I had never taken a yoga class and this was my first, I would never go back. The instructor never stopped talking and beside being so condescending, he was just a big Debbie Downer. He legit talked about all of things that could kill us for the first 15 minutes of the class (FYI: Your computer is on the list). BUT tempo wise, it was just what I needed after a tough first two days. I was very sore so not having to push myself too hard was right up my alley. Felt great to just stretch and hold the poises.

Let’s hope I’m walking better tomorrow.

Day 4 – Thursday, March 14

• A long day of work and meetings led me to a very early bedtime (9pm!). Behind by one.

Day 5 – Friday, March 15 (6:00am)

• Fourth class: Vinyasa Flow Yoga at Life Time Fitness – St. Louis Park (Instructor: Carol M.)

I had a very busy day which meant my only opportunity to fit in a class was at 6am. I’m definitely not a morning person but it felt great to get it over with and be done with it for the rest of the day.

Day 6 – Saturday, March 16

• Behind by two at this point. Just too busy on Saturday to fit in a class.

Day 7 – Sunday, March 17

• Behind by three, thanks to a very early morning at work and feeling under the weather. Decided to take a 3.5 hour nap over going to a class. 

Day 8 – Monday, March 18 (12:00pm)

• Fifth class: Hot Vinyasa Yoga at Life Time Fitness – St. Louis Park (Annie H.)

Perfect addition to my birthday!

Day 9 – Tuesday, March 19th

• Down by three. I’m starting to build a pretty deep hole, which means lots of two-a-days in my future. Committed to finishing my goal…

There are still a few things to add but I am so happy with the finished product — Marcus Taplin did an amazing job putting together my demo and I can’t wait to get it out there to the masses (or just a few agencies).

Here is a new trend I love. It’s called a Reverse French Manicure and I was introduced to it by Kaley Cuoco, the cute blond on The Big Bang Theory. She rocked this look on David Letterman (here’s the interview, check out the 1:15 mark) and I couldn’t wait to duplicate it in two of my favorite colors – maroon and gold!

I had my first Reverse French Manicure done at a salon, but was able to replicate the design at home by myself. And trust me, if I can do it, you can do it! Here are some easy steps to follow:

1. Once your nails are ready to be painted (you know the drill), paint two light coats on the top half of your nails using the gold* polish.

2. Dip a Q-Tip into nail polish remover, dabbing off the excess on a piece of paper towel.

3. Use the Q-Tip like a paint brush and ‘wipe off’ the curve you would like for your Reverse French Manicure. This part is the trickiest but you’re almost done!

4. Once you’ve finished making your curves, take your the maroon polish and carefully paint up to the edge of your first nail polish color. Because the curve is similar to your cuticle shape, it isn’t that difficult to get the color even along the edge.

5. Finish with a top coat and let it dry!

(*Or whatever color your heart desires!)

Here is the manicure I did at home by myself. On this one, I used matte colors and really liked the outcome — although I will definitely be rocking the maroon and gold look at University of Minnesota events all year long!
