the weekend is (almost) here.

The weekend is (almost) here and if you’re a sports fan, it is looking like a good time to belly up to a bar with lots of TVs and just enjoy what’s about to unfold.

Here’s what I’m most excited about this weekend.

Minnesota hockey — The Golden Gophers head up to TitleTown, Minnesota for a two-game series with the reigning national champions and if there was ever a time for Coach Lucia & the Gophers to hold it together, it’s now.  Plus it’s the only time during the regular season that these two teams will meet.  And considering the Gophers haven’t faced any real competition yet, the pressure is on.  Oh and the Red Wings are in town at the X on Saturday.  Minnesota hockey fans have already starting drooling.

Brewers @ Cardinals & Tigers @ Rangers — Picking up a 4-2 win on the road Thursday night, the Brew Crew evened out the playing field heading into Friday’s Game 5.  It’s the last home game for the Cardinals before heading back to Milwaukee for what could be a decisive Game 6 at Miller Park.  Big night for both clubs.  Over on the American League side, former Minnesota Twin Delmon Young helped keep things alive for his new club by pushing the ALCS to a Game 6, scheduled for Saturday in Texas.  I’m pulling for a Tigers’ upset on the road, simply because there’s nothing better than a Game 7 to decide the pennant.

Michigan @ Michigan State — I don’t have feelings for either of these teams but I love college rivalries.  Brady Hoke & his 6-0 Wolverines hold quite the edge in the rivalry game — 67-31-5 — but the Spartans have held onto the trophy for the last three years.  Could they add a 4th & go 2-0 in the Big Ten?  I’m hoping so.  Maize & Blue vs. Green & White.

So torn: My 2-3 Fantasy Football team is up against Adrian this Sunday. Wow, life is full of tough decisions. I will be rocking this shirt regardless.

Arizona State @ Oregon — Two nationally-ranked teams + undefeated Pac-12 records + Saturday night headlining game = huge potential for some amazing football.  With or without LaMichael James, the Ducks are going to be putting a lot of points on the boards but don’t worry — the Sun Devils and QB Brock Osweiler will be right behind them.  Look at either of these teams’ records so far this season and you can’t expect anything but high-scoring.  A can’t miss.

Vikings @ Bears — Could it be a disaster?  Yes.  Could it be our 2nd win of the season in dramatic fashion?  Sure.  Regardless, there’s only one main reason to be excited about Sunday Night Football this week and it’s Adrian Peterson.  Watching him during the 1st quarter of Sunday’s win over the Cardinals just made me excited to see him take on the Bears’ defense, who are ranked 28th overall with over 135 rushing yards a game.  Plus, Jared Allen’s at the top of the defensive food chain with 8.5 sacks on the season so far — going up against a defense that has allowed the third-most sacks this season.  Looking like a good game day for Allen and Brian Robison, who also broke the top-10 list with 4.5 sacks after last week’s game.
